Billing Information

How does billing work?

Understanding how charges flow between you, your customer, and UPS.

1
Collecting payment from your customer (if applicable)Optional

If you are selling goods to customers and charging them for the guaranteed duties, taxes, and fees, you may choose to collect the quoted amount from your customer at the time of checkout. The quote is guaranteed, so there are no surprises for you or your customer.

How and when you collect payment from your customers is entirely up to you — this step is optional and does not affect the UPS Global Checkout™ guarantee.

2
How your shipment is modified

When your shipment is created as guaranteed, meaning the Quote ID is included in the appropriate field and data validation passes, the following shipment parameters are set automatically:

Bill term
Prepaid (P/P)
Duties & taxes
Bill 3rd Party

This directs all actual import charges assessed at the time of import to UPS — so you will only be billed the quoted amount, regardless of what happens during customs clearance. UPS pays the government the appropriate amount on your behalf.

Note: For UPS Global Checkout™ shipments, UPS is always the importer of record and the payor to the government.
3
Your transportation invoice

When your shipment is successfully processed with UPS Global Checkout™, you will receive a single transportation invoice containing:

One invoice, everything included. The UPS Global Checkout™ guaranteed charge appears directly on your existing UPS transportation invoice — no separate billing to manage, making reconciliation simple.
“UPS Global Checkout™ Service” line item
A single charge for the UPS Global Checkout™ guarantee
All applicable transportation charges
Freight, fuel surcharges, and any other standard shipping fees are billed normally
Note: Transportation charges and fees are not guaranteed or covered by UPS Global Checkout™. Only the import duties, taxes, and fees included in your quote are guaranteed.
