How the service works
The UPS Global Checkout service requires two steps, which may occur at different times:
-
Quote generation — Basic shipment or order information is provided to calculate your guaranteed duties, taxes, and fees. This generates a unique Quote ID to identify your shipment and its associated guaranteed cost.
-
Shipment creation — When you create your shipment and print your label with UPS, include the Quote ID from step 1. Providing the Quote ID is required so UPS can link the guaranteed charges to your shipment.
How to get started
1. Identify your quoting platform
UPS Global Checkout supports multiple quoting platforms to integrate seamlessly with your workflow: Shopify app, BigCommerce app, WooCommerce plugin, custom development (API integration), and WorldShip (UI).
Required information at the time of quote generation:
- Shipment origin (country, postal code, and state/province if applicable)
- Shipment destination (country, postal code, and state/province if applicable)
- Commodity description(s)
- Commodity value(s)
- Commodity quantities
- Commodity country of manufacture
- UPS service level
- Transportation cost
2. Identify your shipping platform
Shipping is supported via the Shopify app, BigCommerce app, WooCommerce plugin, ConnectShip, WorldShip (XML Auto Import), WorldShip (UI), custom development (UPS Shipping API integration), and third-party platforms such as ShipStation.
Third-party shipping platforms must have a compatible reference field configured to pass the Quote ID to UPS at label creation time. Our onboarding team can help you test to determine eligibility.
3. Contact the UPS Global Checkout onboarding team
Contact globalcheckoutsupport@ups.com or your account representative to have your account configured for UPS Global Checkout. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have. Have the following information ready:
- Your quoting platform
- Your shipping platform
- Your UPS account number
- Shipment types (B2B, B2C, C2C)
- Shipment origins and destinations
- Shopify plan level (if applicable)
4. Integrate or configure your chosen platforms
Integrate or configure your chosen quoting and shipping methods using the integration options below and the Label setup instructions. If you are using a single plugin or WorldShip for both quoting and shipping, no additional development is required to pass the Quote ID to the label creation process.
5. Test your integration
After integration, create a test shipment and reach out to your onboarding team member to verify everything was processed successfully. Failure to perform this step may result in your shipments being processed without the guarantee.
6. Start shipping
Go live with the service and closely monitor your first few shipments and bills to confirm that Quote IDs are being passed correctly and guaranteed charges are appearing as expected.
