Get started with UPS Global Checkout™ for BigCommerce

Get step-by-step instructions on how to install and configure the UPS Global Checkout app for BigCommerce.

The UPS Global Checkout app for BigCommerce provides transparent, guaranteed duty and tax costs upfront at checkout. Your customers see all import costs before completing their purchase, eliminating surprise fees at delivery and encouraging repeat buyers.

What to expect

Once you have installed and configured the app, you can expect to:

  • Display international shipping costs: Show customers real-time UPS rates with duties, taxes, and fees included during checkout.
  • Provide landed cost transparency: Show all duties, taxes, and fees upfront so customers see the complete landed cost before they buy, with no surprise costs at delivery.
  • Create UPS labels in BigCommerce: Generate shipping labels and commercial invoices directly from your order page.
  • Maintain existing workflows: Continue using your current BigCommerce processes while adding international capabilities.

Installation and setup process

Follow these steps to install and configure your app:

1

Install the UPS Global Checkout app

  1. Go to the BigCommerce App Marketplace
  2. Search for "UPS Global Checkout"
  3. Click Install and follow the prompts to grant the app access to your store
2

Connect your UPS account

After installing, you'll land on the app's setup screen.

  1. Enter your UPS Shipper Number
  2. Click Verify Account
  3. Log in with your UPS credentials in the window that opens to complete the connection

When the connection succeeds, your popup will close, and you'll see a notification in the app's main page stating your account is active.

If you don't have a UPS Global Checkout account yet, use the Register link on the connect screen to request access from UPS.

3

Set the app as your shipping calculator

Before quotes will appear at checkout, you need to select UPS Global Checkout as the shipping calculator for your international shipping zones in BigCommerce.

  1. In your BigCommerce control panel, go to SettingsShipping
  2. Open each shipping zone that covers international destinations
  3. Enable UPS Global Checkout as the real-time shipping quote provider for that zone
  4. Save your changes

Repeat for every international zone where you want UPS Global Checkout rates to display.

4

Test your integration

To verify your setup works correctly:

  1. Add item(s) to your cart: We recommend using a higher value (above the de minimis) to ensure that duties and taxes will be due for the order
  2. Proceed to checkout
  3. Add an international address: You will need to use a real address or you will not get quotes back
  4. Continue to the shipping step
  5. If set up correctly, you will see UPS quotes (including duties and taxes) in the shipping methods offered

Next steps

Once your basic setup is complete, configure your rate management, shipping buffers, and service levels in the Settings guide, and learn how to fulfill orders in the Print labels guide.
